{"id":214,"date":"2006-11-30T14:22:40","date_gmt":"2006-11-30T19:22:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcusvorwaller.com\/blog\/archives\/2006\/11\/30\/slimtimer-the-best-timer-for-gtd\/"},"modified":"2006-11-30T14:27:45","modified_gmt":"2006-11-30T19:27:45","slug":"slimtimer-the-best-timer-for-gtd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcusvorwaller.com\/blog\/2006\/11\/30\/slimtimer-the-best-timer-for-gtd\/","title":{"rendered":"SlimTimer &#8211; The Best Timer for GTD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve looked at several options for making sure I &#8220;use my time wisely&#8221;  while I&#8217;m on the computer including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ethomaz.com\/onlife\/\">Onlife<\/a> (Mac only)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/roughunderbelly.com\/user\/login\">The Printable CEO<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Timers that capture screenshots such as <a href=\"http:\/\/timesnapper.com\/\">TimeSnapper<\/a> or block programs such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.webjillion.com\/archives\/2005\/08\/01\/free-software-temptation-blocker\">Temptation Blocker<\/a> (Windows only)<\/li>\n<li>Project timers such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stuntsoftware.com\/OnTheJob\/\">On The Job<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billings2.com\">Billings2<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/clickablebliss.com\/billable\/\">Billable<\/a> (all Mac Only)<\/li>\n<li>Various non-free online timers&#8230; maybe I&#8217;m cheap but 5 to 9 dollars a month  is 60 to 108 dollars a year and that&#8217;s a lot of cash to fork out for a timer (at least for personal use). These include <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getharvest.com\/\">Harvest<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.14dayz.com\/\">14dayz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.time59.com\/login.asp\">Time59<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tickspot.com\/\">Tick<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Firefox Extensions that track time such as <a href=\"https:\/\/addons.mozilla.org\/firefox\/1887\/\">TimeTracker<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None of them fit my criteria of being <strong>easy to use, easy to see where my time went <\/strong>(some type of reporting) <strong>and inexpensive<\/strong>. Then I went back to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slimtimer.com\/\">SlimTimer<\/a>. The concept is simple. You open up a little window that sits on your desk all day (I open mine in Safari so tabs don&#8217;t accidentally pop up there from my default browser, Firefox) and click the name of the activity you&#8217;re doing at the time. That&#8217;s it. Here&#8217;s my window right now.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/marcusvorwaller.com\/blog\/images\/screenshot_01.jpg?resize=175%2C472\" height=\"472\" width=\"175\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"4\" vspace=\"4\" alt=\"Screenshot 01\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;re done you close the window, click another task or toggle the task you&#8217;re on. Then the cool part is the reports that are available on the main <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slimtimer.com\/\">SlimTimer<\/a> website.
