Farewell Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is, by far, my favorite browser on the PC, and I’ve used it (previously as Firebird) almost exclusively on my Mac at work for the last 5 months as well but alas, no more. I cannot figure out why, but it is several times slower than Safari on my 1.6 ghz G5. I can have the two browsers open side by side and Safair will have loaded a page with all it’s graphics before Firefox finishes saying “Resolving Host.” So, until something changes, farewell Firefox.

See http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68796 for all the ugly details(it’s sort of fixed now).

You can fix the problem yourself, I think. Try typing about:config in the URL bar and hitting enter. then type “ipv6” in the filter field and double click on the resulting preference to change the value to true. that should clear up your resolving host slowness. send me an email and let me know if that fixes things for you.

Looks like this has been fixed! I downloaded the latest build and it’s working great.

Now… for my next bug report, text boxes don’t work right. Any text box that uses the default courier font looks really bad on a mac and is almost impossible to use. I can live with that though. I’m going back to Firefox for my default browser.

Holy crap! Asa Dotzler, you are a genius…I damn near tossed Firefox in the trash can, which would have been a shame, it’s a great browser! Your config fix was right on!! Firefox is lightning fast now! THANK YOU!
